TARGUM ONKELOS TO THE PENTATEUCH A collection of fragments in the Library of the J.T.S of America New York Within the great collection of Biblical manuscripts to be found in the Library of The Jewish Theological Seminary, New York , there are four large fragments of the Targum Onkelos to the Pentateuch. Together these four fragments contain almost the whole text of the Pentateuch in its Aramaic translation, and with a classical Babylonian vocalization. The Spanish Scholar, Diez Macho, has already shown, in his various Targumic studies, that these fragments represent an original version in pure Babylonian Aramaic. These fragments should be used as a basis for the reconstruction of the vocalization, phonology and original version of Targum Onkelos. Diez Macho himself only published two specimen chapters out of these fragments, Genesis chapter XXXIX, and Deuteronomy chapter XXVIII. The remainder of these fragments now appear for the first time for the use of students of Bible and Targum. It should further be noted that Porf, A. Sperber, who in 1959 published a critical edition of the Targum based on various manuscripts, made no use of these fragments which were only discovered after the publication of his volume. The collection of Targum fragments from the Library of The Jewish Theological Seminar, New York will appear in a facsimile edition, numbered and bound in leather, with introductory remarks by Mr. Daniel Bolarin. The collection will be published in two series: First Series: Mss. 152, 153 Second Seriers: MSS. 131, 133a, 4 Volumes
